Project Overview
Additional Details
The objective of the project was to isolate and replace contaminated soil to facilitate the installation of foundations for future site development. The scope of work included the excavation and safe disposal of several thousand tonnes of chromium, lead, benzene, and PAH-contaminated soils and surface structures. Additionally, large volumes of impacted groundwater were managed on-site through careful storage and testing before disposal, in strict compliance with provincial and federal regulations. To restore the excavated areas, clean soil was introduced, and granular and asphalt paving materials were laid to replicate the original site surface.
Surface drainage improvements were made to enhance water management on the site, while the provision of silt trap riffles contributed to erosion protection, aquatic habitat enhancement, and bank revegetation. One of the key challenges faced during the project was the limited size of the work site, which necessitated working in tandem with other contractors and the existing steel manufacturer. This required a strong emphasis on safety protocols and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment for all personnel involved.
