Project Overview
Additional Details
Tri-core was on site to provide effective solutions for containing air-borne materials. For the coal piles, by stripping the coal pile areas, the coal fines were contained within a compacted clay lined cell with an appropriate cover, ensuring minimal environmental impact. In addition, for the ash management, sludge bed drying cells were excavated, and an impervious geosynthetic liner was constructed within these cells to guarantee secure containment for the ash sludge. This was followed by the placement of a compacted clay cover over the cell to effectively seal the material and prevent any leakage.
Upon completion of the project, significant infrastructure improvements were made, which included the installation of concrete pads, site drainage culverts, security fencing, and the re-seeding of the site to restore its environmental balance. Notably, at the Selkirk Generating Station, approximately 108,000 m³ was prepared for landscaping enhancements, while at the Brandon Generating Station, around 45,000 m³ was designated for similar improvements, highlighting the comprehensive efforts taken to enhance the site's ecological integrity and appearance.
